Amongst all the things Nottingham is great at, being green is definitely one of them!

LUSH

LUSH have partnered with us and our city grower Jack, to install a Propagation Station in their shop. This station is an in-store green space that grows a wide range of vegetables, herbs and flowers such as sunflowers, calendula, radish, lettuce and chard.

The project has been successful since it began in April this year. Approximately 72 saplings are planted every two weeks, resulting in 200+ plants being grown up until July. These saplings are then replanted into the parklets located down at Sussex Street, where they are re-homed until they are ready for harvest.

The plants also support our other green projects across the city centre – including our bee highway planters on Clumber Street and Bridlesmith Gate – by adding greenery and increasing biodiversity. So, check out the Propagation Station by the display window when you're in the LUSH store!

LUSH as a cosmetic brand is well-known for its handmade, vegetarian and cruelty-free toiletries, which include plastic-free products and packaging. They have introduced a 100% natural, biodegradable and reusable cork-based product holder for their naked shampoo bars. It's easy to use, good for the environment, and at the end of its life, can be composted. What better way to house your shampoo bar, especially when you’re travelling!

For all you Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lovers, LUSH has something that will take you back to your childhood! In their recent TMNT collection, you can find limited edition fun, fizzing bath-bombs – Four Brothers and Peace, Love and Pizza which contain raw virgin coconut oil. These coconuts are grown and sourced sustainably from an island in Indonesia and in turn, contribute to protecting marine life habitats like marine turtle nesting sites.

The Perfume Shop

Next, is The Perfume Shop, located on the ground floor of Victoria Centre. The aromatic fragrances will definitely guide you in the store’s direction!

The brand has launched the UK’s first multi-brand fragrance refill station, right here in Nottingham! This was done to motivate customers to shop sustainably and encourage environmental consciousness. You can refill up to eight selected fragrances at the station.

This is a great way to re-love your favourite fragrance, again and again. Who knew sustainability could smell so good?!

John Lewis and Partners

Make your way through the Victoria Centre and you’ll find John Lewis and Partners. They provide a service known as the Beautycycle, which aims to recycle a broad range of beauty packaging. If you have any empty beauty product containers, make sure to take them with you. They need to be cleaned, of course! If you’re a My John Lewis member, you’ll get £5 off when you spend £20 or more on Beauty that day, too. Go on then, get recycling!

H&M

Victoria Centre is also home to the new H&M store. You’ll notice as you step in that H&M have no plastic packaging or single-use plastics. They've all been replaced with paper ones. H&M also provide cute, reusable shopping bags in organic cotton or recycled polyester. If you-re a H&M member, there are so many ways you can earn points, including when take your own shopping bags!

Knoops

On Clumber Street, you’ll find Knoops – a recent addition to Nottingham’s hot chocolate scene. The chocolate drinks that tingle your tastebuds come in takeaway cups that are produced sustainably and have a lower carbon footprint. If you’ve ever bought an expertly crafted drink here, you might be aware that customers are encouraged to dispose of the cups, straws, and lids in Knoops stores to be made compostable. If you’re someone who likes to have their drink in your own cup of choice, take yours in and you’ll even get a discount on your order!

Shop Zero

Finally, a popular Nottingham independent – Shop Zero. With the commitment to provide great quality sustainable goods with minimal packaging and at a lower environmental impact, the team at Shop Zero offer a variety of eco-friendly products. They also have a unique dental care range from dental tablets, floss refills to recyclable electric toothbrush heads, all sustainably packaged.

Now you can take care of your teeth and the planet at the same time. How amazing!

Lime bikes

Along with Nottingham’s amazing transport links, electric bikes are increasing presence as a fun, fast, and convenient mode of getting around Nottingham.

Lime bikes have launched an electric bike rental scheme in the city, in partnership with Nottingham City Council. They are easy to hire through the free Lime app available on the App Store and Play Store. With over 200 hire locations across the Nottingham city boundary, you can find a location closest to you and pick up an e-bike.

The e-bikes have a phone holder for you to place your phone and navigate through Nottingham's bustling streets. They even built-in baskets – the perfect way to carry all your sustainable shopping bags!

Once you’re done, park the e-bike in parking bays and locations closest to you and complete the ride on the app. It’s that simple!
